Serving the Vermont communities of Essex, Essex Junction, Jericho, Underhill, and Westford
Our Services
In service to our communities since 1971.
Our primary service is providing exceptional emergency medical response, right when you need it.
We are a licensed advanced life support (ALS) transport ambulance service, responding to over 2,000 emergency calls a year. Over seventy volunteer members and five career staff are trained at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), or Paramedic level. Our paramedics also respond across Chittenden County when requested to support other ambulance services with their critical patients.

Our station is staffed 24/7 with at least one crew, allowing us to respond immediately to calls. If our primary crew is on a call when a second call comes in, we are often able to staff a second ambulance. When that isn't possible, the next available ambulance service responds.

Because our territory is so large, we operate a First Response system to reduce our response time. Our members who live close to the location of a call can arrive several minutes before the ambulance an initiate life-saving care. We also partner with the Underhill Jericho Fire Department to provide a first responder position during the work week when our members are often unavailable to respond.
Additional Services
We provide monthly training for our members, open to anyone from other fire and rescue agencies. Our training room is available for community events. Our staff participate in regional committees to enhance the level of emergency care available to Vermonters and our members volunteer for community initiatives. Additionally, we provide the following services to our residents.
Car Seat Inspections
Certified Car Seat Technician Heidi Sargent offers free inspections, checking for correct installation, a child's fit to the seat, missing parts, and recalls. If your seat is recalled or no longer fits, we can replace it at the inspection for the cost of the seat.

To schedule an inspection, call Heidi at 802-878-4859 ext. 6
File of Life
If you're unable to answer our questions about your health history, we'll often look on the front of your fridge to see if there's a File of Life. This allows you to write down all the medical information we may need if you can't speak for yourself.

If you or someone you know needs one, please call Genevieve Smyth at 802-878-4859 Ext. 7 or e-mail her to request one of these files to be mailed at no charge. Or stop into our station at 1 Educational Dr. in Essex Jct. to pick one up.
Subscription Plan
You can support our volunteers and control your household's medical costs by subscribing to Essex Rescue. If we transport anyone from your household, we'll bill your insurance and leave it at that. You won't be responsible for any costs that your insurance company won't cover.

National Disaster Response
Our volunteers have gone the extra mile, responding to national requests for help, often after hurricanes. Before we send a crew to another state, we ensure we have the resources available to take care of our communities.
